At least seven people were killed and about 30 more became trapped after a dilapidated four-storey residential building in Ghatkopar, Mumbai, collapsed on Tuesday morning, according to media reports.
Twelve injured people were rescued and taken to Shantiniketan Hospital. Ranjanben Shah, 62, three-month-old V Renuka, Sulakshana Khanchandani, 80, and a 45-year-old woman were among those killed.
The Sai Darshan building, located on LBS Road, near Shreyas Cinema in Ghatkopar West, was on the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s list of “dangerous buildings.”
IANS reported that according to the BMCs disaster control official, rescue teams, fire engines and ambulances, and a state disaster management team were at the site.
Chief Fire Officer P Rahangdale told PTI, “Our rescue team, fire brigade jawans and other senior officials of the BMC have also reached the spot. The rescue work is going on a war-footing.”
