The Philippine government has repatriated 81 overseas workers who fell victim to illegal recruitment and human traffickers in Abu Dhabi.
Brought back home on Friday, the workers were among 459 Filipinos who have been repatriated since the start of the year, mostly for the same reason, the Department of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
Other OFWs chose to leave Abu Dhabi because of maltreatment, poor working conditions, detention and non-payment of salaries.
“The repatriation of the 81 OFWs is part of DLA’s continuing effort to combat illegal recruitment, rescue distressed Filipinos and facilitate their safe return to the Philippines,” the department said.
