Abused maid seeks to void property deal by former boss
In February 2015, Law Wan-tung was jailed for six years for abusing her Indonesian maid Erwiana Sulistyaningsih, who is now seeking compensation
A former Indonesian domestic worker is seeking a court order to void a property transaction done between her former employer, Law Wan-tung, who was jailed for six years in February 2015 for abusing her, and Law’s husband.
In March 2015, Erwiana Sulistyaningsih filed a civil lawsuit in Hong Kong’s High Court to seek for compensation from Law after her conviction. However, the former maid later discovered that Law had transferred ownership of her apartment in Beverly Garden in Tseung Kwan O to her husband Barry Tsui Yun-bun, Sing Tao Daily reported.
Sulistyaningsih then filed another lawsuit against Law and her husband, accusing the couple for trying to reduce Law’s assets, which could be used for compensation. She urged the court to declare the property transaction invalid and freeze the asset.
On Tuesday, the former maid requested that the couple to disclose their monthly bank statements and water, electricity and mortgage bills for the apartment, Oriental Daily reported.
The judge accepted her request and ordered the defendant to provide the documents within 60 days.
A trial is set to assess her compensation bid on November 15 this year.
