Air India worker ‘caught smuggling gold in phone’
Contraband found during security search at Mumbai international airport

An Air India employee was arrested for allegedly trying to smuggle 400 grams of gold concealed in the battery compartment of a mobile phone at Mumbai international airport on Wednesday, PTI reported.
Khan Mohammed Arif, a contract employee of Air India Air Transport Services Ltd (AIATSL), was found to have gold worth Rs11 lakh (US$17,000) in one of two mobile phones he was carrying during a frisk search by a Central Industrial Security Force constable.

Air India spokesperson Dhananjay Kumar told PTI, “The services of the staff [member] of AIATSL, the subsidiary of Air India, who is detained by security agency in Mumbai, have been terminated with immediate effect.”
