Angelo Codevilla responds: “This is not security; It is flailing”
This is a “big step,” all right,, but not for “Gulf security.” It is an escalation and concentration effort by the Sunni side in the great Sunni-Shia war of our time.
But the Sunni side has not begun to grapple seriously with the internal threat to itself, namely the youthful anti-establishment rebellion in the name of Muslim orthodoxy of which ISIS is currently the biggest manifestation. The Muslim Brotherhood and countless loser organizations are also feeding on this rebellious sentiment. The Sunni powers (with the partial exception of Egypt) have no serious plans to confront it. The Saudi air force could wipe out iSIS in two weeks. But they are bombing tribesmen in the wilds of Yemen.
This is not security. It is flailing.
