Another suicide at Hong Kong mall
Woman jumps to death at Sham Shui Po shopping center that was scene of at least two previous tragedies
A Hong Kong woman jumped to her death inside a shopping mall in Sham Shui Po, Kowloon, the scene of two similar suicides in 2010 and 2009.
At 8am on Monday, a 47-year-old woman with a history of emotional disorders, used a small plastic stool that she had brought with her to climb over the metal railing in the Dragon Center mall, Oriental Daily reported.
The force of her fall tore the safety net and she plunged to her death. In February 2010, a mother threw her daughter over the barrier before jumping herself. The net held the four-year-old’s weight, but the mother fell through the mesh – extending from the third floor – to her death. The previous July, a man, 48, had killed himself by leaping from the fourth floor. It isn’t clear when the mesh had been fitted.
On the seventh floor by the fencing, the police found the stool, a large plastic bag and a suicide note explaining that she was tired of her sickness, Sing Tao Daily reported. There were no other injuries.
