Bangladeshis found ‘working illegally’ in Kwai Chung raid
The five asylum seekers were arrested at a laundry workshop for illegal work, breaching conditions of stay and overstaying; local man also arrested
Police and immigration officials arrested five men from Bangladesh for working illegally during a raid on a laundry workshop in Kwai Chung in the New Territories on Tuesday.
The joint operation was staged at 4am and targeted an industrial building at 26-32 Kwai Hei Street in Kwai Chung.
Police and officials found five men aged between 33 and 47 working in the laundry workshop.
The five – all asylum seekers – were arrested for allegedly working illegally, breaching their conditions of stay and overstaying.
A local man, 47, was also arrested on suspicion that he had hired illegal workers.
Meanwhile, a 30-year-old Pakistani man, who is an asylum seeker, was sentenced to 22 months and two weeks in jail at Shatin Magistrates’ Court on Monday for working illegally in Hong Kong.
