Boy, 4, shot dead by stray bullet in drug operation in Cebu
Police said they are sure the bullet that killed the child came from the drug suspects and not from their officers
A four-year-old Filipino boy was shot dead during a police raid on a drug gang in Cebu City in the Philippines on Tuesday. At 1pm on Tuesday, police conducted an operation after receiving reports of four people allegedly repacking methamphetamine in a slum area, Rappler reported.
When police arrived in the area, the four suspects were armed and a shootout took place. According to Cebu City Station 5 Commander Senior Inspector John Escober, none of the suspects were captured or killed and managed to escape the area.
However, as police were about to leave, a resident said a child had been hit by a bullet during the shooting. The child was identified as Skyler Abatayo and he was rushed to a hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Escober said police were sure that the bullet that hit Abatayo came from the suspects and not from them. However, this has yet to be confirmed by a ballistics examination.
