British man arrested for traveling with Filipino minor
Sebastian Lai Cole failed to present documents that proved a filial relationship with the minor, which resulted in his arrest
A British man has been arrested and now faces charges after being found traveling with a 14-year-old Filipino girl who was not his relative, in Santander, Cebu in the Philippines.
Sebastian Lai Cole, 33, reportedly employed the girl, who is from Barangay Madridejos, Alegria, to be his tour guide while he was in Dumaguete City, Sun Star reported.
At 4pm on Thursday at Puerto del Sur Port, a police officer and anti-trafficking-officer spotted Cole with the girl, who had no relatives accompanying her.
Police Senior Inspector Margienette Yosores said Cole failed to present documents to prove his filial relationship with the minor, which resulted in his arrest.
Cole is facing charges of violating Section 10 of Republic Act 7610 or The Anti-Child Abuse Law, which prohibits a foreigner from being in the company of a minor who is not his relative. He is currently in police custody.
The girl has been turned over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
