Burglar gets 35 months for robbing Filipina and molesting girl
The accused targeted unsecured flats where he ransacked victims' handbags, stole money, and molested a teenage schoolgirl
A 44-year-old man was imprisoned for 35 months by a Singapore court on Monday after pleading guilty to nine counts including housebreaking, trespassing, theft, loitering and molestation of a 17-year-old schoolgirl.
The court learned that Wan Yu Chin committed the crimes in City Plaza Apartment, Pacific Mansion and People’s Park Complex between August and December last year, Lianhe Wanbao (Singapore) reported.
At 8am on October 6, the man broke into a Pacific Mansion apartment, where Filipino domestic helper Shirley Escodero Gape awoke to find Wan holding her handbag. Upon seeing that she was awake, the accused fled the scene with S$450 (US$337) belonging to Gape.
At 9am on August 18, the accused entered the controlled residential area of City Plaza Apartment between the seventh and the 18th storeys and searched for unlocked units.
Wan found an unsecured unit occupied by a 42-year-old woman and her 17-year-old niece who happened to have stayed overnight.
While ransacking their handbags, the man reportedly molested the teenager by touching her left breast over her clothes.
The victim was startled and chased the accused from the apartment. The victim’s aunt reportedly lost S$370 (US$277) from her purse.
