Burglars break into Repulse Bay flat while maid is out
Police said the case could be linked to a previous theft in the same area last month that netted HK$1 million
Burglars broke into a luxury flat at Repulse Bay in Hong Kong Island South late on Saturday while its domestic helper was out for the night. At 9:30am on Sunday, the helper returned to the apartment in Hong Kong Tropicana Court on South Bay Close, Oriental Daily reported. She found that the apartment had been ransacked and a safe pried open.
Valuables that had been in the safe had disappeared. The total value of the stolen valuables remained unclear.
The maid, who had left the apartment on Saturday night and stayed out overnight while her foreign employers were on an overseas trip, called the police.
Officers believed the burglars had broken into the apartment by way of the balcony. They said the case could be linked to a previous one last month.
On June 9, patrolling officers found a wide-open safe that belonged to a female guzheng master abandoned on a hillside behind 25 South Bay Close. Around HK$1 million (US$128,000) worth valuables were lost, Sing Tao Daily reported.
