Bus plunge kills 28, injures 8
Government allocates Rs10,000 for the families of the deceased
Twenty-eight people were killed and eight others injured when a private bus plunged into a 300-meter gorge in Khaneri in Himachal Pradesh’s Shimla district on Thursday morning, according to media reports.
When the bus was near Khaneri hospital, the driver lost control and the vehicle plunged into the gorge. Both the driver and the conductor were among those injured, PTI reported.
Rohan Chand Thakur, Shimla deputy commissioner, told PTI that the victims’ bodies had been recovered and 11 had been identified. Eighteen men, nine women and one child were killed. He added that a relief fund of Rs10,000 (US$150) had been allocated for the kin of the deceased.
