Charges dropped after maid’s ‘fake watch’ ordeal
Indonesian 'care worker' bought it online as a gift for a family member
Smuggling charges against a 30-year-old Indonesian maid have been dropped after she was accused of importing fake products into Taiwan.
The woman, who worked as a private care worker in New Taipei City, was arrested for allegedly bringing counterfeit goods on to the island after buying a replica branded watch online.
Her package, which included food and clothes, was intercepted by customs officers at a post office in Keelung, Taiwan Apple Daily reported.
Local authorities tracked down the maid, who bought the watch as a gift for a family member and did not realize it was a counterfeit. Her employer backed up the maid’s story, saying she was of good character.
The charges were later dropped by Keelung District Prosecutors Office after further investigations.
