China Mobile, China Telecom to launch nation’s first 5G network in Xiongan
Rival telecoms call for resource sharing as the firms move closers to a nationwide network
Following the high-profile announcement of the Xiongan New Area several weeks ago, two of China’s largest telecom firms have confirmed plans to launch a 5G network in the new development zone.
Statements from China Mobile and China Telecom said that the trial 5G network aims to help “develop [Xiongan] into a green and smart city,” reports Caixin.
Trials are expected to begin next year with a goal to commercialize the network by 2020. China telecom has called for rival telecom giants to share resources for the project.
