Codevilla: Of course the Chinese are curious about the world’s most successful people
The Chinese people’s curiosity is legendary, and no small part of thier susceptibility to all manner of achievement and adaption. Of course, they are curious about the world’s most curious and successful people, the Jews, for all the practial reasons Bailey mentions. As well, Judaism — like Christianity and Islam — permits conversion. Unlike Islam, Judaism and Christianity practice practical ethics that are compatible with Confucian ones. Very much unlike Islam, they demand to be studied by people outside of their own ranks to discover the reasons why their adherents have excelled in all human endeavors. Even the self-proclaimed Communist Chinese are doing that.
