Crackdown on employees holding fake caste certificates
Supreme Court says those who have applied for state jobs or university admission with bogus documents will be fired and/or lose their degree
India’s Supreme Court said on Thursday that people who have used fake backward or scheduled caste certificates to obtain government employment or gain admission to a university face dismissal and degree revocation, according to media reports.
The apex court said, “Even if a person has been in [the] job for 20 years on the basis of a fake caste [document], he will lose the job and also get punished.”
PTI reported that the Supreme Court bench did not agree with the Bombay High Court rulings, which said that those who have been employed for many years may be treated leniently.
PTI reported that last month that the government said employees who had used fake certificates would be fired.
