Delhi tailor accused of raping toddler at his home
Severely injured girl underwent emergency surgery after attack in Shahdara
A 21-month-old girl was allegedly raped by a 40-year-old neighbour in the Gandhi Nagar area of Shahdara in East Delhi on Sunday evening.
According to the Hindustan Times, the toddler was found bleeding and admitted to Lok Nayak Hospital with severe injuries. On Monday, she underwent surgery and was expected to remain in hospital for 10 more days. The accused, a tailor named Hari Ram Yadav, was arrested on Tuesday.
Yadav allegedly took the girl to his home on the pretext of playing with her. Since the girl’s father knows Yadav, he often let him play with the girl. A couple of hours later, Yadav reportedly left the injured child at the entrance to her house.
Her father, who runs a tea stall, was quoted as saying: “My daughter was slow to learn walking. She had begun walking just about three months ago. To encourage her, I allowed her to run around my stall without much restriction. But now I am not sure if I will ever let my daughters away from sight.”
