The drama bowed out with a bang, breaking its own record by recording a 38.8 nationwide viewership rating, according to Nielsen Korea. This was a whopping 4 percent jump from the previous night’s episode.
The finale also recorded 44.2 percent in Seoul, and 41.6 in the capital area. It was the most viewed among the women in their 40s. The finale had raised fears among its many fans. A spoiler report had suggested fans of the show must brace themselves for a heart-breaking finale. According to Koalas Playground, Song Joong-ki’s character Army Captain Yoo Shi Jin aka Big Boss will die in the episode finale, stated Yibada. Considering the show was fully pre-taped before it went on air, alleged spoilers for the finale episode had surfaced online. The outpour of concern prompted writer Kim Eun Sook to share insights into its likely ending.
The writer guested on KBS1 radio’s “Hello This Is Hong Ji Myung,” Soompi reported. Kim spoke about the rumours circulating online about the ending of “DoTS.” She noted a particular rumour that said Yoo Shi Jin dreamt everything up. In response, Kim remarked that she would likely have to move abroad if she indeed ended it that way. She recalled how viewers did not favour the ending of her other dramas in the past. Hence, she admits she learned a lesson from it. “I’ve been scolded a lot by viewers regarding my endings. I don’t think I will be making the same mistake again and I want to tell viewers to confirm the ending after watching the live broadcast,” Kim said. Her statement would imply the ending for “Descendants of the Sun” would be acceptable to its viewers.
