Domestic worker charged over bogus mugging
Filipino lost US$1,300 gambling at a casino but told police she had been robbed by three men on the streets of the southern Chinese city
A 36-year-old Filipino domestic worker was arrested by Macau police on Friday night accused of reporting a fake robbery after she had lost the money gambling at a casino.
The Filipino claimed she had been mugged by three men on the streets of the southern Chinese city on April 28 and that they had taken 10,500 patacas (US$1,311) from her, Journal Do Cidadao reported on Monday. Police suspected the woman had fabricated the crime as her declarations conflicted.
The woman later admitted she had made up the story as she was supposed to transfer the money to her family in the Philippines, but had lost it gambling. She told police she was afraid of being admonished by her family and decided to report the bogus crime to explain the loss.
She was arrested for suspected crime simulation, local newspaper Tai Chung Pou reported.
