Domestic worker jailed for false rape allegations
A court reprimanded the woman for her actions and for wasting authorities’ resources on the case
An Indonesian domestic worker who falsely accused her employer’s driver of raping her was jailed in Brunei last Saturday. Rosalia Namok, 23, filed a police complaint at the Berakas Police Station on October 3, claiming her employer’s driver dragged her into his room and raped her last month, Borneo Bulletin reported.
According to the report, the woman and the driver both lived in their employer’s house in Kampong Rimba.
The driver was arrested the same day. However, after a thorough investigation, the rape allegations proved to be false. It was discovered that Namok and the driver had a consensual relationship.
She later confessed that the fear of becoming pregnant made her falsely accuse the driver – a pregnancy would get her terminated from her job.
The court condemned Namok’s actions for damaging the man’s reputation and wasting resources. Magistrate Dewi Norlelawati Binti Haji Abdul Hamid ordered Namok to pay a fine of BND2,500 after she pleaded guilty. She failed to pay the fine and on October 6 was sentenced to two months in jail.
