Domestic worker jumps off roof to escape Saudi employer
The Filipino domestic worker said she feared for her life as her employer allegedly threatened to kill her
A Filipino domestic worker jumped off the roof of her employer’s house in Saudi Arabia to escape after her employer allegedly threatened to kill her.
The domestic worker identified only as Emily said her employer gave her too much work and did not give her food. Her phone was also taken away.
Emily said she escaped because she began to fear for her life as her employer allegedly threatened to kill her, GMA News reported.
Emily suffered bruises and wounds on her face and was rushed to a hospital. A Filipino nurse in the hospital said they had yet to receive word from the Philippine Embassy in Saudi Arabia but police had come to investigate Emily’s case.
The nurse named Renalyn Samorano helped Emily to take a video of herself seeking help to be returned home to the Philippines. Samorano said Emily does not have any contact people in Saudi Arabia, so she helped her contact her family in the Philippines.
The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration has already notified the Embassy about Emily’s situation and will take any measures necessary to get her repatriated.
