Dubai Mall vendor charged with theft and assault
The Filipino vendor allegedly resisted arrested and injured a policeman
A Filipino vendor who was accused of stealing a mobile phone that was left behind in the bathroom of The Dubai Mall was arrested after he allegedly assaulted a police officer, causing him a head injury.
The Filipino man, 31, who worked at one of the mall’s outlets, was suspected of stealing a mobile phone that a shopper had forgotten in a washroom. The shopper informed security guards that he had left his phone and the guards reported the matter to the police, Gulf News reported.
After investigating the missing phone, police had reason to question the Filipino, who was taken outside to a parking lot. When he was asked to sit in the police car, the man allegedly refused. The Filipino reportedly resisted arrest and knocked a policeman to the ground.
The Filipino fell over the policeman, who received a head injury. When the accused then tried to escape, he was apprehended by the injured policeman’s partner.
On Tuesday at the Dubai Court of First Instance, the Filipino was accused of assaulting and injuring a police officer, resisting arrest and theft of a shopper’s mobile phone. The Filipino pleaded not guilty to the charges.
