Elderly man dies after alleged attack by hospital caretaker
Man complains of horrific abuse he suffered while being helped in the shower by a female member of the hospital's staff
A 75-year-old man died on Sunday at Tuen Mun Hospital in the New Territories after complaining that he had suffered horrific physical abuse by hospital staff.
The man complained to staff at the Medical Rehabilitation Ward on Saturday that he had been horrendously abused physically while being assisted in the shower, according to a government release.
The elderly man’s condition deteriorated after the alleged abuse. Doctors performed a clinical examination followed by a colonoscopy on Saturday after the man complained and discovered he had internal injuries.
Medical staff treated the man’s internal wound but his condition later deteriorated. An urgent operation was recommended, but the man declined. He died on Sunday.
It is believed the horrific abuse was inflicted by a female worker when she was helping the elderly man shower. The man told his family what happened and they complained to the hospital, the Sing Tao Daily reported.
Hospital management reported the case to police after the man’s internal injuries were discovered and have said they will fully cooperate with police who are conducting a further investigation.
