Elderly man dies while walking with friends in New Territories
The 71-year-old was with four friends and collapsed after scaling the 532-meter Needle Hill on Saturday
A 71-year-old man collapsed and later died on Saturday when he went trekking with a group of friends in Tsuen Wan in the New Territories. The deceased, a retired man who lived alone in Yuen Long, started his hike at the Shing Mun Reservoir in Tsuen Wan at 10am with four friends, the Apple Daily reported.
The group planned to trek along seven stages of the MacLehose Trail. When they arrived at the 532-meter high Needle Hill about noon, the man complained of pain in his abdomen.
He rested for 20 minutes before restarting his hike, despite friends asking him to take more rest. He then fainted and injured his head when he fell.
His friends called police and the man was sent to the Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital for treatment. However, he was pronounced dead at the hospital.
