Facebook community digs deep to help amputee vada vendor
US$2,300 raised internationally to fund his children's education
A diabetic vada vendor who was struggling financially after having one of his feet amputated has seen his luck change dramatically thanks to social media.
One of 50-year-old Javed Khan’s regular customers shared the story of his plight on Facebook. The post soon went viral, inspiring readers to dig into their pockets to help the popular Coimbatore street vendor, who is his family’s sole breadwinner.
So far he has received over Rs1.5 lakh (US$2,300) from people in India and around the world, which he will use to fund his children’s education.
