Family buried in debt despite being sent monthly remittances
A Filipino working in Riyadh sent money home to his wife every month but she said it was not enough to support their five children and she had to borrow
A Filipino migrant worker was shocked to discover that his family was buried in debt even though he had been sending money home to his wife every month.
In an episode of Raffy Tulfo in Action, a program that is broadcast on both television and radio in the Philippines, Winifredo Binondo, who worked in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, said he returned to the Philippines on September 9 after the company he worked for began to go bankrupt. Binondo said that since 2016, he had sent 20,000 pesos (US$370) per month to his wife Cristy, The Filipino Times reported.
When Binondo returned home, he was shocked to learn that his wife had been borrowing money from others. Cristy said the monthly remittance that her husband sent was not enough to support their five children.
The family had no savings and is now buried in debt. Binondo’s wife admitted that she did not tell her husband the truth to avoid giving him stress and resorted to borrowing money instead.
Raffy Tulfo, the host of the program, said the couple had a problem with communication and that the wife should have been honest with Binondo that he was not sending enough home for their five children and told him about the debt.
