Filipina locked in employer’s home in Kuwait gets rescued
The Filipino domestic worker was maltreated by her employer and was not paid her salary for four months
A Filipino domestic worker in Kuwait was rescued by her compatriots after being locked in her employer’s house for two days. Arna Ayunan was rescued by Honie Grace Cortes dela Cerna and Regina Valdez, who lowered a plastic bag which contained a phone, portable Wi-Fi and food from the rooftop of a building to the window Ayunan had access to, GMA News reported.
The two Filipinas took a video of the rescue on October 15.
In the video, Dela Cerna and Valdez said Ayunan was maltreated by her employer and had not been paid her salary for four months. Ayunan was also not allowed to fly home to the Philippines when her husband died in April.
A few hours after the video was taken, Ayunan was given permission by her employer to return home. However, she was only paid one month’s salary instead of the four months she was owed.
Ayunan, from Maguindanao, has returned to the Philippines. The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration said the Philippine Overseas Labor Office in Kuwait has asked Ayunan’s recruitment agency to get an incident report.
