Filipino domestic worker wins 1 million dirhams in raffle
Despite the size of her win, she will continue in her job as a domestic worker
A Filipino domestic worker in Dubai won one million dirhams (US$272,294) in a raffle organized by a UAE-based foreign exchange company.
Gina Realuyo Soriano, who has worked in the UAE for 10 years, became eligible to participate in the Al Ansari Exchange summer promotional raffle for a chance to win one million dirhams after she sent money to her family in the Philippines, Khaleej Times reported.
Soriano told The Filipino Times she had participated in the raffle for several years and had in the past submitted multiple entries. This year, however, she put in only one entry, making her win an even more pleasant surprise.
The domestic worker is the second Filipino to win the annual raffle by Al Ansari Exchange. She is also the first female to win the grand prize. Last year, Filipino civil engineer Al Dizon Banzil won the same prize.
When asked what she would do with the money, Soriano said she will finance the education of her children, who are currently in senior high school.
She went on to say that, despite winning such a large sum of money, she will continue as a domestic worker for her employers of 10 years.
