A Filipino has been elected as the deputy mayor of East Grinstead Town Council in Sussex, England, making him the first Filipino to win an elective post in the United Kingdom.
Danilo M Favor, an ophthalmology nurse, was first elected as a councilor in East Grinstead in 2011 and was re-elected in 2015. Favor was also conferred with the Presidential Award for outstanding overseas Filipino in 2014, the Philippine Daily Inquirer reported.
On May 14, members of the town council elected Favor as deputy mayor. The Philippine Embassy in London congratulated Favor on his election and said he is the first Filipino to be elected as deputy mayor.
“He is the first Filipino to hold this elective post,” Ambassador Antonio Manuel R Lagdameo said.
Favor graduated with a nursing degree in the Philippines and continued his studies at King’s College, London. He has lived in East Grinstead for 15 years.
