FlyDubai crash videos: New CCTV footage offers insight
Two days after the Flydubai FZ981 crash in Russia, two previously unpublished CCTV videos have emerged allegedly picturing the flight crash that killed all the 62 people onboard. Both videos show the Boeing 737 inexplicably dropping out of the sky and exploding into a fireball. After missing the runway in southern Russia, the flight crashed while making a second attempt to land in heavy wind and rain.
Meanwhile, the airport in the Russian city of Rostov-on-Don has reopened. “The airport is now fully functional,” an airport representative was quoted as saying. A plane of the emergency ministry made a successful test landing Monday morning, the ministry said. Investigators have launched a criminal probe into whether poor weather, a pilot error or a technical fault were behind the crash, which killed all 55 passengers and seven crew members on board, including nine different nationalities. The Indians killed were identified as Mohan Shyam and wife Anju Kathirvel Aiyappan.
Also, the plane’s two black boxes were recovered from the crash site and despite considerable damage to the flight data and voice recorders, experts began on Monday retrieving information from them, the Interstate Aviation Committee (MAK) said. It said the analysis of the flight recorders would take time. In addition to this, FlyDubai will pay a hardship payment of $20,000 to the next of kin of each passenger who died in the plane crash. In a statement on Monday, a FlyDubai spokesperson said that the priority for the airliner at the moment was to identify and contact the families of those who lost their lives in the accident and provide immediate support to those affected.
A statement attributed to the CEO of the airline said: “I am very sorry to say that we believe that there are no survivors. Onboard the aircraft, 55 passengers including 33 women, 18 men and 4 children and 7 crew members of whom 5 were male and 2 were female. The nationalities of the passengers included 44 Russians, eight Ukrainians, two Indians and one Uzbekistani”.
New crash videos: The crash videos capture the catastrophe from new angles and different distances. The first one shows the plane falling from the skies almost vertically. In the second video, the flight looks like it was attempting to land. Moments later, a bright spot is seen hitting the ground and an explosion follows.
