Former airport employee ‘helped smuggle gold’
Man allegedly used fake pass to get past security
A former airport employee allegedly used fake ID to circumvent security to help international gold smugglers three times before he was caught by customs officials.
Mohammed Nasir worked for a company at the Delhi airport until October 2016 and had a valid airport entry pass. Later, he made a fake ID card that he used to gain access to the airport’s secure areas.
A senior police officer was quoted as saying, “On May 25, Customs nabbed a passenger and a former staff member with 24 gold bars worth Rs80 lakh (US$124,000). An investigation revealed that Nasir, who was helping the passenger in dodging Customs check, had left the job and was using a forged pass. The Central Industrial Security Force was informed and they got him arrested.”
According to reports, Nasir’s employer failed to return his airport entry pass after he quit, which could have prevented the security breach. The accused allegedly scanned the old pass, changed the dates and pasted the old hologram on it.
