Former wrestler charged with raping teen kabaddi player
Sixteen-year-old alleges he knocked her out after luring her to his car
Delhi police arrested on Wednesday a former wrestler for allegedly raping a junior national-level kabaddi player, according to media reports.
The suspect, 46-year-old Naresh Dahiya, used to run a wrestling center in his home village of Karala.
Police told IANS, “The incident occurred on July 9 when the victim, who went for training in Chhatrasal Stadium in north Delhi, was accosted by Dahiya. Posing as a coach, he lured the victim to his car on the pretense of giving her diet tips. After having covered some distance, he struck [her] behind her shoulder, following which she lost consciousness. When she regained her senses, she found herself in a flat. The accused then sexually assaulted her.”
The 16-year-old victim said she filed a complaint against Dahiya at the Model Town police station in north Delhi after he threatened her.
He has been booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code.
