Four people get 15 months in jail for working illegally
Two employers were arrested for hiring illegal workers and officials are investigating their cases
Four foreigners were each sentenced in Tuen Mun Magistrate’s Court on Saturday to 15 months in prison for working illegally in Hong Kong.
A 30-year-old Bangladeshi man, a 30-year-old Pakistani man and a 39-year-old woman from Vietnam, all asylum seekers, and a 41-year-old Vietnamese man who was an illegal immigrant were working unlawfully, Oriental Daily reported.
The two Vietnamese were also charged with using forged identity cards, for which they were sentenced to 15 months, to run concurrently with their illegal-employment sentences.
In a joint raid by police and the Hong Kong Immigration and Labour departments on August 30, the Bangladeshi and the Pakistani were found working at a recycling factory in Pat Heung in Yuen Long, New Territories.
Officials arrested the two Vietnamese nationals in a restaurant kitchen in Wan Chai on the same day.
