Hiker missing for a month found dead in Aberdeen
Initial inquiries suggest that Ko fell to his death while hiking alone but the actual cause of death will have to be determined via an autopsy
A 77-year-old male hiker was found dead on Tuesday in Aberdeen on Hong Kong Island, 50 days after people lost contact with him.
Hikers reported to police at noon that they found the body of a man lying near a stream, with his head between rocks near Deep Water Bay Road and Nam Fung Road in Aberdeen, am730 reported.
Police and paramedics arrived at the scene shortly after. They found the man’s belongings and, after checking his identity card, confirmed that the deceased was a man surnamed Ko who was reported as missing more than a month ago.
An initial investigation suggested that Ko fell to his death while hiking alone but the actual cause of death will have to be determined after an autopsy.
It was understood that Ko left his home in Shek Pai Wan Estate in Aberdeen at 8am on December 26 last year and did not return.
Family members and social workers reported him missing to police on January 5.
