Another trespassing incident on Hong Kong’s MTR system occurred late on Wednesday, on the East Rail Line at Sheung Shui station. At midnight, a Hong Kong man surnamed Lui, 55, fell on to the tracks in front of an approaching Hung Hom-bound train.

An MTR staff member at the platform immediately applied the emergency brake, but it was too late to stop the train in time, the news website HK01.com reported.

Lui was hit and trapped under the wheels, and pronounced dead by firefighters at the scene, the public broadcaster RTHK reported.

A preliminary police investigation indicated that Lui had deliberately jumped off the platform in front of the oncoming train. However, no suicide note was found.

The deceased was believed to have been troubled by family matters, an unnamed source said.
