Indonesian students win awards for educational game
The youngsters invented a game called Si Manggis Celebes which focusses on dental and oral health
Four Indonesian dentistry students won awards at the 2018 International Invention, Innovation and Technology Exhibition in Kuala Lumpur from May 10 to 12 for a mobile game they invented.
The game, Si Manggis Celebes, is an Android-based educational game on dental and oral health developed by Mixelia Ade Novianty, Nurfaisya Riandani, M.Shaad Isra and Julian Marchel Nuruwael, The Jakarta Post reported.
The group won a silver medal in the education category during the World Young Inventors and Exhibition forum. They also received a special award from the World Invention Intellectual Property Associations Taiwan.
According to the developers, they were concerned at the lack of knowledge by parents and children in Indonesia on oral and dental health, which led to the development of the game.
“The existing education method has been dominated by conventional ones, such as speeches and posters,” Novianty said.
According to the group’s research, oral and dental problems that preschool students in Indonesia face are tooth decay and bad habits. The group proposed developing an educational game as a solution to the problem.
