Japan donates helicopter parts to Philippines in bid for influence
Manila continues to cash in on competition for clout
Rodrigo Duterte’s pivot to China continues to pay dividends, including modest ones, as this week saw another treaty ally donate to the Philippine military in an effort to counter Beijing’s influence.
Tokyo will give Manila thousands of helicopter parts in what could be the first in a series of similar deals, reports Retuers.
“This is a demonstration of the robust strategic partnership and cooperation of the two allies,” a senior Philippine Air Force commander told Reuters. The deal would deliver around 40,000 parts, according to the official.
