Kitchen fight between Filipinos now headed to trial
Filipina charged with cooking up a fight and assaulting a maid with a pot has asked a magistrate to put a lid on her guilty plea
A 52-year-old Filipina driver, who had earlier pleaded guilty to wounding a Filipina maid in Kennedy Town on Hong Kong Island with a cooking pot, will be tried in the Eastern Court in August after deciding to change her plea.
Maria Fe Pangue told magistrate Peter Law she wanted to change her plea and wanted to go to trial on July 18, the sunwebhk.com reported.
The court heard that Fe Pangue, who worked as a driver-helper, allegedly hit Jethelyn Sumagay on the head with a cooking pot more than once during a quarrel on May 22 in an apartment in the residential estate The Belchers in Sai Ying Pun.
She passed a written statement to the magistrate, who noted a difference in her statement and the police statement. The police said Fe Pangue “unlawfully wounded” the domestic worker.
However, Fe Pangue claimed she was struck first on the face with the pot’s lid, prompting her to hit back. Law set the trial for August 22 in the Eastern Court.
