Suzy to replace Kim Ah-joong to co-host 2016 Baeksang Awards
In a new twist, Korean heartthrob K-pop candy Bae Suzy will be replacing veteran actress Kim Ah-joong as the female host for this year’s 52nd Baeksang Arts Awards ceremony. Comedian Shin Dong-yup will be her co-host.
The good news came to light when multiple insiders in the entertainment industry told Soompi that Suzy is the newest female face of this year’s Baeksang Awards. It is the first time in six years that the prestigious event will be hosted by a different actress, Yibada noted. It also marks the first time that only two MCs will preside the annual award, instead of the 3-MC system that Baeksang usually had. The prestigious event, which is also hailed as the South Korean Golden Globe Award, is poised to honor outstanding accomplishments in the Korean entertainment industry, particularly in film, theatre and television. It is one of the three top film awards in South Korea, after the Dae Jong Film Awards and Blue Dragon Film Awards. The ceremony will be held on June 3 at the Grand Peace Hall in Kyung Hee University, Seoul, South Korea. It will be simulcast on JTBC network.
Some of last year’s top honors went to Choi Min-sik for Roaring Currents, Park Yoo-chun for Haemoo and K-drama Misaeng. This year’s nominations of course include ‘Descendants of the Sun’, Song Hye-kyo and Song Joong-ki.
