LeEco’s Gan Wei listed as defaulter, restricted from traveling
Court rules Gan must pay US$220 million to Zhongtai Specialty Financing plus liquidated damages and debt interest
Gan Wei, the wife of LeEco founder Jia Yueting, has been included on the list of defaulters, together with her husband and the company, due to the ongoing dispute with Zhongtai Specialty Financing, The Paper reported.
According to the announcement by Beijing No.3 Intermediate People’s Court, Gan must pay 1.403 billion yuan (US$220 million) to Zhongtai, as well as liquidated damages and debt interest.
Meanwhile, it was reported that Jia has been listed as a defaulter at least seven times, while his company, LeEco made the list six times. It is believed this is the first time for Gan.
Defaulters are restricted from traveling by train and airplane, as well as visiting hotels and restaurants. Their children will also be restricted from attending expensive schools.
Late last year, Jia Yueting appointed Gan and his brother Jia Yuemin to act as shareholders of LeEco on his behalf, so as to help him with asset disposals while he defied the order to return to China.
