Macau man pours hot oil, drain cleaner over wife
The couple's Filipina domestic worker was also injured as a result of the attack
A 40-year-old local man was arrested by police in Macau for allegedly harming his wife by pouring hot oil and drain cleaner on her last Thursday.
At 11pm, the suspect surnamed Wong became angry when his 31-year-old wife sought a divorce, Today Macau reported.
The couple, both said to be insurance agents, have a six-year-old son and live in an apartment on Avenida Olímpica in Taipa.
It is understood that during their argument, Wong went to the kitchen and boiled up some cooking oil, which he then poured over his wife along with a cup of drain cleaner.
When the woman ran into their Filipina domestic worker’s room for help, the maid was also burned by the corrosive fluid.
Neighbours reported the case to the police and the two women were sent to hospital.
The woman suffered second- and third-degree burns to more than 40% of her body, including her face, torso, arms and one leg, Jornal Do Cidadao reported.
As she suffered fourth-degree burns to her eyes, the woman may lose her eyesight.
Meanwhile, the domestic worker’s hands and legs were injured.
The man was arrested for grievous bodily harm, and the case has been sent to the public prosecution office.
