Magnificent 7 ride to rescue of drowning Hong Kong woman
Apparent suicide attempt by 60-year-old Cheung Chau resident foiled by prompt action by restaurant workers
A 60-year-old Hong Kong woman who ran into the sea off the island of Cheung Chau in an apparent suicide attempt was rescued by the timely intervention of no fewer than seven workers from a nearby restaurant on Sunday evening.
The woman had burst into tears and dashed into the water at about 7pm after a heated row with her husband, Oriental Daily reported. Seven men from the Pok Oi Swimming Services Centre restaurant jumped into the sea and pulled her 20 meters back to the shore, Apple Daily reported.
Firefighters took over, expelling water from her lungs and restoring her to consciousness, before she was sent to hospital on Hong Kong Island.
