Maid accused of stealing cash, jewelry from Dubai employer
The police raided the Filipino maid's room and found gold jewelry belonging to her employer's family members
A Filipino domestic worker in Dubai has been accused of stealing 44,000 dirhams (US$11,980) in cash, as well as jewelry from her female employer.
The 38-year-old domestic worker became suspected of theft after her employer noticed money missing from her bedroom safe. The employer said the domestic worker was the only one allowed to enter her bedroom to clean it, Khaleej Times reported.
After the employer filed a complaint at the Bur Dubai police station on May 24, police raided the domestic worker’s bedroom. Officers found gold jewelry that belonged to the employer’s relatives under her bed.
“The police also found earrings and watches of my family members in the maid’s closet,” the employer said.
Three bracelets, four rings worth 3,000 dirhams, a necklace, three watches, a pair of earrings and a wallet were found. The domestic worker claimed she was unaware of the jewelry under her bed. The police placed her under arrest.
On July 26 at the Dubai Court of First Instance, the Filipina was charged with theft. The trial was adjourned to August 6.
