Maid charged for subletting Dubai flat for gambling
The Filipina domestic worker collected 100 dirhams (US$27) a day from five accomplices who used her apartment as a gambling den
A 46-year-old Filipino domestic worker has been charged for subletting her apartment in Dubai to be used as a gambling den.
The maid collected 100 dirhams a day (US$27) from five accomplices last year so they could use her apartment in Al Satwa for gambling purposes, the Khaleej Times reported.
A policeman said they received information that a Filipina was using her apartment for suspicious illegal activities.
Police raided the apartment on May 12, 2017, and arrested five people, who have already been convicted. The five admitted that they used the apartment for gambling purposes and said the domestic worker was aware of that.
They said the domestic worker asked them to pay 100 dirhams (US$27) per day for use of the apartment. One of the accomplices claimed it was the maid who was running the business.
On Wednesday at the Dubai Court of First Instance, the maid was charged with subletting her apartment for gambling purposes. She admitted being aware of the gambling operation in her apartment.
