The young Filipino man was reportedly resting under a tree when the incident happened; he is the second person killed by lightning in Cebu this week
An 18-year-old Filipino man was killed after he was struck by lightning in Toledo City in Cebu, in the Philippines.
The victim named Fail Gelig was resting under a tree in Casoy district on Thursday afternoon after he went singing on the street – “carolling” with two companions during the local fiesta, ABS-CBN News reported.
There was a thunderstorm in Toledo City when the incident happened. Roxam Enerio, a senior police officer, said the victim suffered burns on his forehead.
“He was rushed to the hospital but declared dead on arrival,” Enerio said.
Gelig is the second man struck by lightning in Cebu this week. On Tuesday, a man died after he was struck by lightning in Argao in Cebu.
In the Philippines, it is rare for someone to be struck by lightning but the chances of it happening increases during the rainy season, which starts in June and lasts until October.
