A 30-year-old Taiwanese driver was arrested for drunk driving after allegedly causing the death of one person and injury to two others in Chiayi county, southwestern Taiwan, on Tuesday night.
At 10pm, a black sedan reportedly overturned after crashing at high speed into a white car, according to witnesses, Taiwan Apple Daily reported.
At the time of the incident, the driver of the black car was transporting two Vietnamese co-workers along Provincial Highway 1 toward Minxiong Town from Dalin Town, both in Chiayi county.
A 30-year-old Vietnamese national was trapped in the smashed vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene after being extracted from the wreckage, while his 37-year-old compatriot sustained fractures in his arms.
The driver suffered a lacerated liver and has been in an intensive-care ward since the incident.
The female driver of the white vehicle only suffered minor injuries and refused to be sent to hospital.
According to the results of a breathalyzer test, the driver of the black car had a breath-alcohol content of 0.89 microgram per liter, which was 3.5 times the legal limit (0.25mg per liter), and he was thus arrested for drunk driving.
