Man arrested in Lan Kwai Fong for Halloween handcuffs prank
Man put handcuffs on a woman for a prank but then could not find the key in order to remove them
A 35-year-old man of Nepali origin was arrested for possession of offensive weapons in Central Hong Kong’s Lan Kwai Fong district on Sunday. He put handcuffs on a woman but could not remove them.
Ta Kung Pao reports that the man was drinking in a pub on D’Aguilar Street with a 31-year-old local woman surnamed Chan, at 5am. He put handcuffs on the woman for fun but then could not find the key in order to remove them.
Police were called and then firemen were brought to the scene to cut the handcuffs off. No-one was hurt.
The man insisted the incident was the result of a Halloween prank but he was arrested for alleged possession of offensive weapons and detained at the police station.
Barrister Albert Luk Wai Hung said metal handcuffs were considered offensive weapons. Oriental Daily records that carried handcuffs in public is punishable with a maximum fine of HK$5,000 (US$640) and imprisonment of two years.
