Man arrested after stabbing ex-wife at family court
Woman surnamed Pang is reported to be in critical condition; police are treating the case as suspected attempted murder
A 37-year-old Hong Kong man surnamed Chong was arrested on suspicion of attempting to murder his former wife, a 33-year-old mainland Chinese, at the Wan Chai Family Court on Monday afternoon.
At around 2pm, Chong was seen taking out a one-foot long knife and stabbing his ex-wife, surnamed Pang, four times as they waited outside a courtroom, Apple Daily reported. Pang, who was accompanied by a male friend from mainland China, was injured in her back and abdomen.
After the attack, Chong was immediately subdued by the court’s security guards while Pang was sent to the Queen Mary Hospital, where she remained in critical condition after an operation, according to Sing Tao Daily.
Chong and Pang divorced in 2015, with the latter taking custody of their children in Guangdong province. Lately, Pang had not allowed Chong to see their children. They were appearing in the Family Court due to an alimony-related matter. The police are treating the case as a suspected attempted murder.
