Man carrying loaded gun arrested in Sham Shui Po
Police officer said the seized gun appeared to have been home-made
A 56-year-old local man was arrested in Kowloon’s Sham Shui Po on Saturday for allegedly carrying a loaded shotgun and ammunition in his backpack.
Police found the man surnamed Chan was acting suspiciously on Tung Chau Street at 1.30am and said he tried to escape when officers attempted to stop him, Sing Pao reported.
Later, at 8:30pm on the same day, officers also arrested the man’s girlfriend, a 43-year-old woman surnamed Hui in Kowloon’s Mong Kok for allegedly possessing arms and ammunition without a license.
The couple was detained at the police station for further investigation to find out why he was carrying a gun and where he got it.
Superintendent Wong Chi-wai of the Kowloon West regional crime unit said the gun appeared to have been home-made. He believed it could fire shotgun ammunition, but said a more thorough examination was needed, Ta Kung Pao reported.
