Man convicted of molesting maid, harassing debtor
The defendant, 31, was jailed and caned for groping an Indonesian domestic worker and for splashing paint on a loan shark debtor's door
A 31-year-old Singaporean man was sentenced to four years and three months in jail and given nine strokes of the cane on Tuesday after he pleaded guilty to molesting an Indonesian domestic worker in 2016 and harassing a loan-shark debtor last year.
On November 23, 2016, Ahmed Lutfy Sarry stopped an Indonesian woman who had been working in Singapore for a month from leaving an elevator on the ground floor of a building in Ang Mo Kio Avenue by blocking the entrance with his body and hands. He closed the door by pressing the button for the sixth or seventh floor, The Straits Times reported.
The man began hugging the victim on the waist and squeezing her breasts. He put his arm over her shoulders and continued to grope her from behind.
He molested the woman for 45 seconds and finally released her after she struggled and cried for help. He apologized to her in Malay at the site.
Sarry also faced a harassment charge for splashing paint on the door and gate of a debtor who owed money to a loan-shark group on February 6, 2017. He was offered S$100 (US$75) for the job.
He pleaded guilty to the accusations against him. His sentence was backdated to June 8 last year.
